In late August 2010, I had the privilege of working online with a web design and SEO company based in Christchurch.
I worked with a Christchurch guy named Cameron. We call him Cam.
He recruited me through the Upwork (formerly oDesk) portal. I wrote web content and did search engine optimisation on his online store and several client websites.
Specifically, I built links through article writing and submission, blogging and social media bookmarking.
After gaining good SEO results for the websites I’m working on, Cam also asked me to help him with recruiting and managing online workers.
Three factors that build our trusting one another, which online workers could appropriate in their work are:
- Commitment – You are serious about the agreed work hours and getting the tasks done.
- Honesty – It’s being truthful in your work and being clear about what you can and you cannot do.
- Quality Work – Excellent work is preferred and willingness to achieve beyond expectation.
My online work with Cam could have continued for more than six months but then I got a full-time long-term online contract so I had to resign.
My wife whom I trained and recruited to work with me on Cam’s online jobs continued the tasks that I was doing.
In November 2011, my family migrated to New Zealand, we stayed in Auckland. Looking for work, I contacted Cam and asked for help.
He offered me a job, the same tasks that I was doing while in the Philippines, in his company, eNow Limited.
My deep gratitude for Cam’s confidence in my online marketing and SEO skills, most of all his sincerity to help me.
My family will never forget the kindness Cam extended us when we were starting settling here in New Zealand.
Yes, my first job in New Zealand started from a virtual job and it opened further opportunities for me and my wife.
I’m no longer working with Cam but we have become close friends.
In 2013, I put up my company, Owniche Ltd. (fomely Online Writing Niche.
